Bored with Brexit?  Buy British!

Why we’re Backing Britain and buying British

Now we’re not getting political, but you’d have to be living under a rock not to be aware of Brexit. Who knows what will happen, either on the 29th March or in two years time. What we do know is that the British eyewear industry is growing and there are some wonderful businesses out there making first-class lenses and frames.

At Allegro Optical we have always believed in buying British and supporting British industry. Take our lenses for example; our unique musician’s lenses are made in Yorkshire, as are most of our ophthalmic lenses. We also stock a wide range of British made and British designed spectacle frames.

We love British eyewear

By stocking British we are trying to support British business, protect British jobs and keep air miles to a minimum. While many people like to have a pair of spectacle frames with a large designer logo on the arm,  they end up paying extra to advertise that brand for the designer. Are they aware that these frames are in fact fabricated in huge factories in China, then sent to Italy for the hinges and screws to be added allowing the claim that the frames are made in Italy!

In the case of British brands such as Hemp eyewear and the soon to arrive Banton FrameWorks, these beautiful award-winning frames are crafted entirely by hand in the UK. Not forgetting classic British eyewear brands such as Walther and Herbert, Saville Row and Anglo American. We also have designs from well known British names such as Land Rover. Or newer names such as the eye-catching Hook LDN and Ashton Riley,  we really do stock something for everyone.

Because everyone is unique

If you can’t find anything to your taste or if the frame you love doesn’t come in your size, or if you want something completely different we can hand make any frame to your own requirements right here in the UK. At Allegro Optical our team of highly qualified dispensing opticians are able to take detailed facial measurements to create completely bespoke eyewear, custom made just for you.

Handmade bespoke eyewear from Allegro Optical Opticians in Saddleworth and Holmfirth Greenfield Uppermill Meltham

Our bespoke frames are handcrafted using the finest materials.  From high-quality premium acetate to natural horn, from hemp to titanium, or even from wood to precious metals. A custom made frame will fit like a glove and each frame is expertly finished to create a completely unique product. Creating the perfect frame isn’t a quick job. The design consultation and dispense start, as with all our consultations, with getting to know the customer. The dispensing optician and optometrist will ask what you do professionally? What hobbies and interests you have and what type of lifestyle you lead?

They will ask if you have any problems with your current frames? The dispensing optician will then take a series of measurements and maybe some photographs. This ensures that the new frames are a perfect fit. These measurements and photographs are then sent to the workshop where the new frames will be perfectly crafted for their new owner.

So forget Brexit and BUY BRITISH!

Returning to the title, while we may be bored with Brexit, we love to buy British. For that reason, we are promoting British brands, with guest appearances of full collections in store from Saturday. This coming weekend you can see the full Ashton Riley collection in Saddleworth.  If you miss it, it will also be in Meltham on the weekend of the 5th April.

Sharp vision for Albion Farms championship Moosician

Cornet players vision was causing her to Bb, but now it’s clear and sharp

When you’re playing for one of the top brass bands in the world, it requires your full attention and a great deal of personal commitment. Players want to deliver their best performance every time they play. To do this they need to be able to focus on their music properly. The last thing a musician should be worrying about is if their spectacles are fit for purpose.

Allegro Optical the musicians optician helps Laura Hirst of Brighouse and Rastrik Brass Band

Laura Hirst of the world famous Brighouse & Rastrick brass band had been experiencing problems with her vision and glasses for some time. Following the opening of our new Saddleworth practice in Greenfield, Laura booked an appointment to come and see us. As the country’s leading Musicians Optical Specialist, we were more than happy to help Laura and provide her with the very best optical solution.

Focusing on the farm shop

Laura is a very busy young lady and when not playing with Brighouse & Rastrick, she runs her family’s business, the fabulous  Albion Farm Shop and Cafe in Delph. The Hirst family have worked Albion Farm since the early 1900’s. The Farm Shop & Cafe opened in 2011 and she is also developing the business for the digital age. This allows customers to easily access events, foodie information and more recently the popular hog roast feast.

Even though Laura is still only in her early 30’s, because of her many complex working distances and visual requirements, she needed a little help due to ocular fatigue, which became particularly noticeable when she was using electronic devices and when reading music while performing.

The lenses we have provided for her take into account Laura’s playing position, the music stand distance and the distances of the many different electronic devices Laura uses in her day to day life. This optical solution gives her the perfect visual correction from the conductor, music stand and a plethora of electronic devices.

When asked about her new glasses, Laura said; ”To have a pair of glasses tailor-made for specifically reading music, as well as a separate pair for everyday use, is definitely a unique service to offer. Not only that though, but the attention to detail, service and quality was also above and beyond anything I’ve previously received elsewhere. I now own two pairs of lovely glasses, and can keep my music readers in my instrument case at all times to make sure I don’t forget them!”.
