Eye-care during a pandemic
Like many other local businesses, the Allegro Optical practice in the Greenfield Centre has had an unannounced spot check by one of the Oldham Borough Council COVID compliance teams. After taking copious notes during the visit the inspector was impressed
with our safety precautions. We were of course pleased by their complimentary assessment. They actually said that “there were a lot of businesses in the area that weren’t complying properly, but ours are one of the best they had seen”.
In March we made a concerted effort to ensure staff and patient safety. We installed high-quality Perspex screens and electronic entry systems. While many businesses circulated air by opening windows, we knew COVID19 was here to stay and we really didn’t fancy conducting eye exams in sub-zero temperatures so we installed hospital-grade ozone generators. Let’s face it no one wants to shiver through their eye test. We were determined to continue to provide our clients with the warm welcoming atmosphere that they know and love. Saying that we wanted to make things as safe as possible for everyone.
All staff were provided with surgical scrubs, gloves, aprons, face shields, and masks. We also implemented a rigorous Covid sanitisation regime.
What went well
What particularly impressed the council inspectors were;
- Track and trace compliance.
- The locked door policy to control access and capacity.
- Staff wearing PPE from top to toe.
- The UK made Perspex screens were the best the inspector had seen.
- Designated areas to ensure social distancing.
- The documented stringent cleaning regime between appointment.
We are proud to remain open and able to provide community eyecare during this difficult time and reassure you that you will remain as safe as possible when visiting Allegro Optical.
