Celebrating a new year with a new practice

Allegro Optical is celebrating a new year with a new practice

It has been a busy Christmas period for the team at Allegro Optical. We have been working hard to equip and stock our new practice in The Greenfield Centre in Greenfield, Saddleworth. Our second home is situated on Wellington Road, in close proximity to Tesco’s. You will find us at the site of the old Lifestyle Fitness Centre, along with Scona Coffee Shop and House Hair Salon.   This has become a most eagerly awaited and talked about opening. We are very pleased and excited to announce to you all that the brand-new Allegro Optical will have its Grand Opening from 12pm until 5pm on Saturday 12th January. It’s an event not to be missed so get it in your diary and make sure you bring the family. There will be music from our friends at Diggle A and B Brass Bands, nibble and fizz. We invite everyone to come along and meet the team. Our resident Optometrist Sara Ackroyd is a resident of Saddleworth. She is well known in the area from her time spent working in Uppermill. Our Clinical Support Technician, James Brooks is well known locally.  When not hard at work with Allegro Optical, he plays the Euphonium for Championship Section Oldham Band (Lees). Dispensing Optician and Co-founder Sheryl Doe will be on hand as will Managing Director Stephen Tighe, who said: “We are delighted to be opening our second practice in the heart of Saddleworth. We cannot wait to get 2019 started in our new location!’

What a Year!

Award Nominations and successes
It has been a busy couple of years for Allegro Optical since we opened our first practice in Meltham in March 2017. Since then we have been shortlisted for five industry awards. Firstly reaching the regional finals of the Start-Up of the Year category of the Celebrating Small Business Awards run by the Federation of Small Businesses. Secondly in April this year, Allegro Optical were presented with the Eaton Smith Business of the Month. An award presented in association with the Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce. Also in April Co-founder and Dispensing Optician Sheryl Doe reached the finals of the Opticians Awards – Dispensing Optician of the Year. One of only three opticians to do so. In June we were shortlisted for two National Best New Business Awards. Sheryl won the Entrepreneur Of The Year award and we were runners-up in the National Service Excellence Award.
Music note
In July we welcomed Jeremy Lewis, Trombonist with Uppermill Band, as our 1000th customer. Quite a coincidence as Allegro Optical is also known as “the musician’s optician” thanks to our specialism in musicians eye care. This was very apt as in August Allegro Optical became the first and only opticians to gain BAPAM registration. This allows us to provide optimal care in partnership with the British Association for Performing Arts Medicine. During October the Association of British Dispensing Opticians featured our  Co-founder and Dispensing Optician Sheryl Doe in a national campaign. Aimed at raising the profile of the range of activities carried out by Dispensing Opticians and Contact Lens Opticians across the country. The campaign showcased a different DOs each week. The article focused on Sheryl’s pioneering work with musicians and performers eye care.

Going forward to 2019

We will continue to provide the award-winning eyecare for which we are famous in Meltham. We will continue to look after our customers, many of which are now firm friends and the Meltham team remains unchanged. Claire, Sara, Jill, Josie and Julia will still be on hand as will Sheryl. We will continue to provide the very best eye care and don’t forget our amazing 3D OCT eye scanner. But now all this expertise and knowledge is coming to Saddleworth. With a fabulous range of British spectacle frames and optical lenses made in West Yorkshire we aim to deliver the very best in ethical eye care to the local community.   Please note that parking in Greenfield is available on sight or in the Tesco’s car park immediately opposite the entrance to the Greenfield Centre. In Meltham we have parking on site directly in front of the practice. Appointments can be made by ringing 01457 353100 or 01484 907090 or visit https://www.allegrooptical.co.uk/contact/
